Maggots are small parasites that can attack sensitive areas such as your cat's intestines and stomach, causing infection and inflammation.

There are a number of reasons why cats may have maggots in their bodies:

  1. Exposure to peripheral maggots: Cats are often exposed to the peripheral environment, especially when they go outside or play in grassy or shrubby areas where maggots are common.
  2. Exposure to polluted environments: Cats living in polluted areas can easily be exposed to maggots and other parasites.
  3. Weak immune system: Cats with weak immune systems may be more susceptible to infections, including maggots.
  4. Contact with other cats: If a cat is infected with maggots, it can spread the infection to other cats through direct contact or sharing personal items.
  5. Lack of hygiene: Dirty and unsanitary living environments can facilitate the growth and spread of maggots and other parasites.
  6. Failure to control parasites: Sometimes the control of parasites such as maggots in cats is not done properly or regularly, leading to their spread in the cat's body.

Having maggots in your cat not only causes discomfort but can also cause serious health problems. When infected with maggots, cats may exhibit symptoms such as:

  1. Changes in eating behavior: Cats with maggots in their bodies may often show a loss of interest in food, or conversely, may have increased hunger because the maggots cause them to absorb nutrients ineffectively.
  2. Diarrhea or constipation: Both of these conditions can be signs of bacteria or parasites caused by maggots.
  3. Nausea and vomiting: If your cat has persistent symptoms, especially after eating, this could be a sign of enteritis or a maggot infection.
  4. Weight loss: Cats infected with maggots may experience weight loss due to not being able to absorb enough nutrients from their food.
  5. Matte and matted fur: Cats infested with maggots may appear matted or lose fur. This may be due to loss of nutrients or direct effects from parasites.
  6. Hyperactivity: In some cases, cats with maggots may show signs of discomfort by becoming more restless or stressed.

If not treated promptly, this condition can cause serious health problems and affect your cat's quality of life. Maintaining your cat's cleanliness and using preventative measures such as using veterinarian-recommended maggot repellents are necessary to protect your cat from the risk of maggots.
