Do Sphynx cats have other names?

Hairless cat breeds are not naturally occurring cat breeds, but are often developed through selective breeding. Many modern hairless cat breeds are descended from the Sphynx, a naturally hairless breed that appeared in Canada in the 1960s. The Sphynx has short or hairless fur due to a natural genetic change.

Sphynx did not immediately gain widespread acceptance. However, later on, cat breeders began cross-breeding the Sphynx with other cat breeds to create new breeds with distinctive coats. The goal is to combine the characteristics of the Sphynx with other breeds to create hairless cats with diverse appearances and personalities.
Here are some other famous hairless cat breeds:
-
Donskoy (Don Sphynx): Also known as Don Hairless, this cat breed originates from Russia. They have hairless skin, large ears and large eyes.
-
Peterbald: Also a cat breed originating from Russia, the Peterbald can be full-haired, short-haired or hairless. They usually have a slender shape and a slightly long head.
-
Ukrainian Levkoy: Developed in Ukraine, this cat breed has heart-shaped ears and hairless skin. Ukrainian Levkoy can have short or hairless fur.
-
Elf Cat: The result of crossbreeding between the Sphynx and the American Curl, the Elf Cat has curved ears and hairless skin. They have a unique and friendly appearance.
-
Bambino: A cross between a Sphynx and a Munchkin, the Bambino usually has short legs and hairless skin. This is a compact and active cat breed.
-
Sphinx Cat: Not a Sphynx, the Sphinx Cat breed appears in Australia and can have short or hairless fur. They have round heads and large ears.
-
Brazilian Shorthair: This hairless cat breed originates from Brazil and is characterized by hairless skin, large ears and a long tail.
-
Kohana Cat: A new breed of hairless cat, this breed was developed from the combination of Donskoy and Munchkin. Kohana Cat has short legs and hairless skin.

Cat breeds are not created through the pairing of Sphynx cats with other breeds, creating new breeds with distinct characteristics. In short, hairless cats often come from selective breeding, combining cat breeds with special genes to create desirable physical and personality traits.
